Last weekend, a Nike Air Penny signature model made its retail debut for the first time since 1998. Tracing back to the beginning of Anfernee Hardaway's storied basketball career, the first colorway of the Air Penny V salutes Memphis-based Treadwell High School, where Penny set record after record before leaving for college in 1990. Decked out in black-accented red nubuck with a white foam wing, the "Red Eagle" V takes cues directly from the gym in which Hardaway put his name on the map.
With a price tag of $165, the "Red Eagle" Penny V dropped at select Nike accounts in limited quantities on Saturday, September 8. The shoes were an instant sell-out online and had an easy time finding their way out of physical stores.
Sole Collector members in the forum's Official Penny Hardaway Thread were more than happy to see the Penny V run get underway. Several people shared photos of their "Red Eagle" pickup, some of which can be seen below.
Did you get your hands on the Penny V? If so, what are your early impressions?
